Ghana's Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has expressed concerns about the country's weak domestic football ecosystem. According to him, Ghana relies heavily on foreign-based players for its senior national team. This was stated during the 32nd Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on August 20. The minister emphasized that a stronger domestic league would improve the quality of players available to the Black Stars and create opportunities for coaches, referees, administrators, and other professionals within the football industry. He also stated that a strong league must produce players, coaches, referees, administrators, football intelligence, commercial value, and excitement. Ghana's domestic football ecosystem is indeed weak, as evident from the recent performance of the national team. The Black Stars have been struggling in the World Cup, currently standing 3rd in the league with 4 points, 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss from 3 games, with a recent form of LLDW. They are also 3 points behind the leaders, England, in the title race. In their last result, they lost to Colombia 1-0 on July 4. The recent form of the team is 0 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses in the last 5 games, with the last 3 losses. Ghana's reliance on foreign-based players is a major concern, and the minister's words are a wake-up call for the football authorities to strengthen the domestic league.
