Black Stars among Africa’s standout performers in World Cup 2026
The Black Stars are counted among Africa’s most impressive performers at World Cup 2026, according to CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
Speaking in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Motsepe singled out Ghana alongside Senegal, Algeria and the eventual quarter-finalists Egypt and Morocco. Nine of the continent’s ten representatives advanced past the group stage, a record 90 % knockout-stage rate that dwarfs earlier World Cups.

What did Motsepe say about Ghana?
Motsepe told reporters “Bafana Bafana played very well; Senegal played very well, Ghana, Algeria all performed well.” He reserved special praise for Egypt and Morocco, whose quarter-final runs underlined the continent’s leap forward.
Overall, Africa’s nine qualifiers from the group phase marked the highest knockout-stage ratio in World Cup history. The previous peaks were 40 % in 2022 and 2014, with zero in 2018.

Ghana’s run in North America delivered tangible progress. The Black Stars exited at the Round of 32, but their competitive displays reinforced the technical strides made under the current staff.
Motsepe also flagged specific areas for growth. Coaches, technical teams and players now have a clear roadmap to iron out the gaps exposed in the knockout duels.
Black Stars turn to AFCON 2027 qualifiers
With the World Cup curtain closed, the Black Stars pivot to Ghana’s next major mission - the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The draw placed Ghana in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Somalia and Gambia. The campaign kicks off in September, giving the side a fresh chance to stamp their authority on the continental stage.
